6/30/2023 0 Comments Encyclopedia of Islamic Jurisprudence Concerning Muslim Women by Yusuf Al-Hajj Ahmad![]() ![]() The ‘question and answer’ layout of the book is intended to facilitate effortless comprehensibility and swift memorization. This book has two very important and distinct qualities: ![]() I have collected, in this work, the views of great scholars (and imams) who have preceded us in their knowledge, laborious endeavors, and virtue. In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Mercifulĭear Muslim sister, it is my sincere intention to present you with a comprehensive book that addresses those matters of your life and religion that are essential in facilitating your role as a mother, teacher and nurturer. ![]() 6/30/2023 0 Comments War Storm by Victoria Aveyard![]() ![]() ![]() One of my favorite little details was when Mare in her independence decided she would call Cal “Tiberias” in retaliation for him choosing the crown over her and her people. I know there are lot of people out there who ship Mare with Maven (including my sister) but I am all for Cal and Mare! ![]() Where do I even start? I guess I should start by saying that I am a strong shipper of Cal and Mare. So, please, do yourself a favor and read the book! And though this deterred me a little, I was pleased to see how each viewpoint pulled me in, even when I was reluctant to read the next Iris or sometimes Evangeline chapter. The book does switch POVs a lot, so you get to see from Mare, Evangeline, and Iris Cygnet’s viewpoints with Maven and Cal later on. Whether you just want to say that you read that almost-700-page book in a day or that you finished the story with thousands of other people, just read it. So, for those of you who haven’t read this book or are wondering if it’s worth it, it is. I should have more faith in Victoria Aveyard because she is truly an amazing writer, and she knows how to pull a reader’s heartstrings. I’m always somehow afraid when starting one of these books ever since I heard a rumor that a lot of people have been abandoning the series because they don’t like it anymore. I was afraid it wasn’t going to meet my expectations, and though it took a bit to get into it, it certainly met and exceeded them. This book was iffy in the beginning for me. ![]() 6/30/2023 0 Comments Carrie soto is back![]() ![]() White authors who center stories around Hispanic and Latine characters tend to get higher paychecks and more marketing dollars compared to Hispanic and Latine authors who write authentic stories about their communities and cultures, she adds. ![]() “You’d be surprised to find out that Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Carrie Soto Is Back has more untranslated Spanish than any book I ever read, even by Latinx authors.” “ Carrie Soto Is Back is a story of a Latina tennis player written by a White woman, which we’ve been here before many times,” Tomes and Textiles book influencer Carmen Alvarez said in a reel published on Instagram and TikTok to her combined nearly 60,000 followers. Many of these influencers say it’s problematic that a White author pit a Latina title character against an Asian character. Book influencers expressed concern about these characters being women of color trying to defeat each other. The novel focuses on a retired tennis champion who sees her record about to be broken by a younger player, so she feels she must come back to defend her record. The publisher even had a pop-up at Wimbledon over the summer. Coming off the heels of the historic US Open where we saw tennis legend Serena Williams bid goodbye to the sport, Penguin Random House and its Ballantine Books imprint was in the throes of promoting Taylor Jenkins Reid’s new novel, Carrie Soto Is Back. ![]() ![]() ![]() Naomi and Ethan join forces to host a buzzy seminar series on Modern Intimacy, the perfect solution to their problems-until they discover a new one-their growing attraction to each other.
